07 heaven! a festival 07 review by Tori Garbutt

Brilliant, buzzing ... and a bargain

“Just…really getting into it”, is how Alfie, lead singer of headlining band The Holloways, described the crowds at Festival ’07.

“They’re jumping around, getting all excited, it’s great.” And it had been exactly like this for the whole day. The atmosphere at Festival ’07 was buzzing with young life from indie beat teenagers right down to finger-painting toddlers.

And why not? There were certainly enough options to fit anyone’s tastes, with graffiti painting, banner making and digital music mixing featuring highly on everyone’s agenda. My favourite was the chance to try podcasting, particularly fun as it entailed meeting and filming new people, asking them for their real thoughts on the festival, which will later be posted on the internet for a “youth view” of the event at Stone Cross Fields, Northallerton, on July 7.

However, the real highlight of the day was the music, and the wealth of talent growing in our area. The atmosphere in the amateur bands’ 6K Vision tent was simply electric for bands like Original Sin, Epic and showcase winners The Ben H Band. People’s support for their friends and families was astounding, with nervous parents watching from the back as their son or daughter literally screamed into the mike, giving it all they’ve got. The DJ tent was constantly filled with the awe-inspiring musings of local MCs and the hip hop tent with surprisingly good rising star rappers. The main stage, though, provided the most popular entertainment of the day, spanning the genres of rap, physical entertainment, rock, indie, electro, and…Lil’ Chris. The undoubted favourites were indeed Lil’ Chris and The Holloways, but these were certainly closely followed by Four Day Hombre, Ali Whitton, and the ever crowd-pleasing All Sexy But Ginger.

There was so much to do and see at the festival, and all for £5? Bargain! I’ll be there again next year!
